You can invite users from outside of the Colonial Williamsburg organization to attend a Microsoft Teams meeting.  They will be able to join without having a license for Office365 or Teams.  Below are the ways a user can join a Teams meeting and any concerns about that way of joining.

All methods below rely on the user clicking the link provided in the the meeting invite.  The Teams app is the recommended way of joining the meeting and is free to download and install.


Mac

  • You can download and install the Teams app for free.  
  • The user is not required to sign in to join the meeting.  
  • Clicking on the link in their email should automatically launch the app and join the meeting
  • All basic functionality is available: Audio, Video, Chat and sharing

Using Chrome

  • You can join the meeting using Chrome
  • Audio, Video and Chat are available (The user will need to give Chrome permission to use the Camera and Microphone)
  • Sharing is not available

Using Safari or Firefox

  • It is not recommended to use Safari or Firefox
  • Neither support sending audio or video only chat
  • Users can use dial in to get audio
  • Users can see video from other attendees.

PC

Using the Teams app - Recommended

  • You can download and install the Teams app for free.  
  • The user is not required to sign in to join the meeting.  
  • Clicking on the link in their email should automatically launch the app and join the meeting
  • All basic functionality is available: Audio, Video, Chat and sharing

Using Chrome

  • User can join the meeting
  • Audio, Video and Chat are available 
  • Sharing is not available

Using Edge

  • User can join the meeting
  • Audio, Video and Chat are available 
  • Sharing is not available

iPhone/iPad

Using the Teams app

  • The app is free to download and install. 
  • All major functions are available - Audio, Video, Chat and Sharing

Browsers

  • While it is technically possible to join via Safari you would be required to use a different phone to join the audio
  • No video 
  • Chrome and Firefox are unsupported and make you download the app

Android devices

  • All major functions are available - Audio, Video, Chat and Sharing

Using a Browser

  • Browsers are not supported on Android devices
  • No labels
