These steps should help you set up your Avaya 9608 model phone so you can use it at home. It is recommended these steps be performed by an IT staff person or along with IT staff help. If you use a Vantage phone (the touchscreen kind of phone), you are encouraged to install Equinox (now called IX Workplace) on your computer or smartphone and use it in place of your Vantage phone. As an option to everyone, you may also have the IT Support staff enable call forwarding. This allows you to forward all your calls to a cell phone or home phone.

Steps on 9608 while using a SIP extension:

Do the following while at CW:

  1. Assuming the phone is logged in already, press the "A" (Avaya logo) button.
  2. Scroll down to Administration
  3. Type the password: 27238 (spells "craft") and press Enter.
  4. Scroll down to "Clear" and press Enter. This clears the current configuration from the phone and makes it ready to receive a new configuration from the http server (above).
  5. At the confirmation, press "Yes"
  6. The phone will reboot.
  7. As the phone boots back up, and after the AVAYA splash screen, watch for the opportunity to press an "Admin" soft-key ("Admin" will be displayed over one of the buttons).
  8. Type the password: 27238 (spells "craft") and press Enter.
  9. Scroll to ADDR...
  10. Enter the following into the HTTP (Not HTTPS) field. To type a dot, press the * button. 13.82.173.160
  11. Press the "Back" soft-key
  12. Press the "Exit" soft-key
  13. The phone will reboot.

While the phone is rebooting, unplug it. Failing to do so at this moment will cause the phone to see the config server on our CW network. The configuration settings pulled from the server will overwrite the settings you just set above.
Obtain a power injector from the IT support team. This will be needed when a phone is brought home. When using a power injector, you will need to know how to connect it to your phone, your Internet modem or WiFi router, and your power outlet. Take the time to meet with one of our IT services specialists to be sure you are comfortable with doing this at home. See the picture below to help you out.

Do the following from home:

Plug in the phone at home with the power injector, two Internet cables and the power plug.
Once the phone has begun booting up, you should see the configuration downloading for a moment. The phone should receive the new configuration which makes this phone work from a remote location. When it is done getting the new configuration and rebooting a few times, it should end up at a login screen. Log into the phone with your extension as the username, and either your extension or employee number as the password.
Note: At this point, you cannot log into this phone while on the CWF network. You need to be on an "outside" network. See steps below to clear the phone before attempting to use it back at work on the CW network.

Logging in at work, again

The configuration that the phone used away from CW will only work away from CW's network. When you bring the phone back to the CW network, you must clear the configuration, plug it into the CW network and then it will get the proper configuration from the Avaya servers to allow it to work within the CW network. Clearing the phone is simple:

  1. As the phone boots up at your desk, and after the AVAYA splash screen, watch for the opportunity to press an "Admin" soft-key ("Admin" will be displayed over one of the buttons).
  2. Type the password: 27238 (spells "craft") and press Enter.
  3. Scroll down to "Clear" and press Enter. This clears the current configuration from the phone and makes it ready to receive a new configuration from phone system's servers.
  4. At the confirmation, press "Yes"
  5. The phone will reboot.
  6. Upon reboot, the login prompt will appear. Log into the phone with your extension as the username, and either your extension or employee number as the password.
