What is ITS Change Management?
ITS Change Management refers to the formal process for making changes to the IT services in the production environment. The goals of change management are to:
- increase awareness and understanding of proposed changes within IT and across the organization
- ensure that all changes are made in a thoughtful way that minimize negative impact to services and users
- document changes and their results for analysis
Role of IT Contacts
It is the responsibility of IT Contacts to read the ITS Change Management notifications and communicate changes as necessary within the appropriate business area. IT Contacts will receive up to thee emails per change–one when the change is approved and scheduled, a reminder within the 24 hours prior to the start of the change, and one when the change is complete. The email notifications will include:
- a description of the change
- the components affected by the change–a component is the IT Service, for example, Email
- the start and end date and time of the change
- the member of IT who will be implementing the change
- the status of the change, one of the following:
- Awaiting Implementation - the change has been approved and scheduled and is pending implementation
- Done - the change is complete
- Implementation Review - IT will be reviewing the implementation of the change before it is moved to the Done status
