This document is for those that have NOT setup multifactor authentication prior to it becoming mandatory.

This was not created by Colonial Williamsburg or Microsoft, but it does walk you through the steps below.  MFA text setup


  1. When multifactor is turned on for the first time and you have not set it up, you will receive the below popup. Click Next.


2. You will then be asked to choose an authentication method.  Choose Authentication phone and select the first choice of United States. 

  • In the box next to the country, type your area code and phone number without hyphens
  • Then you can choose whether you want a text message or a phone call.  Press Next.


3. Once that is complete, you will be at step 2.

  • You will receive a text at this time to the number you provided.  If you chose text, please type that six digit code from the text message into the below box.  Click Verify.
  • If you chose call, you will receive a phone call at the number you provided.  It will direct you to press the pound sign #.  Press the # on your phone.



4.  You are now complete with setting up your multifactor authentication.  Click Done to close the window.
