Mapping a printer to your computer allows you to print to that printer. In order to successfully map a network printer you must first know the printer name, you can find the printer name on a sticker located on the printer itself.

Name vs. Model

Printer names usually start with “PR” or “MFD”. The printer name is different from the printer model (LaserJet, WorkCentre, etc)

For Windows

Step-by-step guide

  1. Know the name of the printer you wish to map to your computer

  2. On the Start menu click in the “Search programs and files” box

  3. Type "run" and press Enter

  4. In the run dialog box type "\\printserve12012" and press Enter

  5. From the list of printers, find the name of the printer you wish to map to and double click on it

    Info

If you do not see your printer listed, verify the name is correct. If still not listed, during Step 4 instead of "\\printserve12012" try "\\printservebhs", "\\printservegbo" or "\\printfso"

  6. The printer will now be mapped and you will be able to print to it from your computer

For Macintosh

Step-by-step guide

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. On the second row near the end select "Printers & Scanners"
  3. On the left you will see a list of printers already installed.
  4. Click the + symbol to add a new printer.
    1. On a Mac it is best to add the printer by IP address.  You can find this info labeled on the front of the Printer
  5. Enter the IP address in the "Address" field.
  6. It will take a couple of seconds but the bottom "Use" field will populate with a driver that will work for the printer
  7. It is a good idea to change the "Name" and "Location" fields to better identify the printer.
    1. Do not change the "Protocol" or "Queue" field
  8. Once the driver is found you will be able to click
  9. Your printer is ready to use!
