Mapping a printer to your computer allows you to print to that printer. In order to successfully map a network printer you must first know the printer name, you can find the printer name on a sticker located on the printer itself.

Printer names usually start with “PR” or “MFD”. The printer name is different from the printer model (LaserJet, WorkCentre, etc)

For Windows

Step-by-step guide

  1. Know the name of the printer you wish to map to your computer

    On
  2. At the bottom left hand side of the screen click on the Magnifying glass:

    If you do not see your printer listed, verify the name is correct. If still not listed, during Step 4 instead of "\\printa" try "\\printb"

  4. From the list of printers, find the name of the printer you wish to map to and double click on it


  5. The printer will now be mapped and you will be able to print to it from your computer

If connections to the print servers fail with error 0x0000011b, the PC is missing a critical windows update.  Manually install missing updates using the "Check Online..." button in the Updates Settings screen

For Macintosh

Step-by-step guide

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. On the second row near the end select "Printers & Scanners"

  3. On the left you will see a list of printers already installed.

  4. Click the + symbol to add a new printer.

    2. On a Mac it is best to add the printer by IP address.  You can find this info labeled on the front of the Printer
  5. Enter the IP address in the "Address" field.
  6. It will take a couple of seconds but the bottom "Use" field will populate with a driver that will work for the printer
  7. It is a good idea to change the "Name" and "Location" fields to better identify the printer.
    1. Do not change the "Protocol" or "Queue" field
  8. Once the driver is found you will be able to click Image Added
  9. Your printer is ready to use!
